Britains geology makes a unique rock climbing paradise with varied experiences from the gritstone edges of the Peak District to the sea cliffs of the Outer Hebrides.
The majority of James Thacker Mountaineering's rock climbing courses, instruction and guiding occurs in the Peak District. Here, near to the village of Hathersage there is simply some of the best single pitch rock climbing around - "THE grit". For longer and harder routes the Peak as has some excellent Limestone venues.
Here you will be climbing in the footsteps of many of the early pioneers and experiencing some classic routes. My wish, as always, is to meet your aims and aspirations regardless of whether they are defined by grade, style, type of climbing or the wish to be self reliant.
For those keen to go experience climbing in North Wales or the Lake District I also regularly travel further a field for Mountain multi-pitch and sea cliff climbing.
The Peak Rock section has details about climbing on the gritstone edges of the Derbyshire Peak District and Limestone cliffs of the High Peak. There are also suggested programmes for you if you are interested in learning to lead or are just keen to experience rock climbing for the first time.
Visit the Multi Pitch section for details about learning to lead on multi-pitch mountain routes, or on Britain's major sea cliffs. For experienced climbers I also cover problem solving and self rescue skills. Like most first aid courses: you hope you never have to use the skills but they might come in handy.
